Important information about generating a Certificate Signing Request (CSR)

 

Please make sure that the COMMON NAME (CN) in your CSR is the Fully-Qualified Domain Name (example: www.nomanix.com ) of your OWN Server, or if it is an intranet server, use the network name of your server.

Make sure your CSR:

  • Is generated with a minimum of a 1024 bit key (for better security in ssl)
  • Contains a fully qualified domain name or an intranet name
  • DOES NOT include IP Addresses
  • DOES NOT include Illegal Characters - eg: & , ' etc. If you are not sure, leave it out.
  • Leave the challenge password blank
  • Have the correct Country Code. eg: United Kingdom = GB  FULL LIST HERE
  • Generate your own CSR, DO NOT use our example CSR. The CSR must be created on your own server.
  • If you are requesting a wildcard certificate, please make sure that the COMMON NAME (CN) in your CSR starts with the wildcard character,'*'. (example: *.nomanix.com)
  • Include the -----BEGIN...REQUEST-----  and  -----END...REQUEST----- phrases in the request
